Ringworm is Highly Contagious and Can Be Spread in the Following Ways:

Ringworm can spread all over your own body with simple contact. It's symptoms can last for weeks and even months if untreated.

1. Human to human. Ringworm can often times be spreads by direct, skin-to-skin contact with an infected person. This is less of a problem if the infected person has been treated.

2. Animal to human. You can contract ringworm by touching an animal with ringworm. Ringworm can spread while petting or grooming dogs or cats. You can also get ringworm from cows, goats, pigs,
guinea-pigs and horses. Examine your pets if someone in your family develops ringworm.

3. Object to human. Ringworm can spread by contact with objects or surfaces that an infected person or animal has touched, such as clothing, towels, bed linens, combs or brushes.

4. Soil to human. In some cases, ringworm can be spread to humans by contact with infected soil. Infection would most likely occur only from prolonged contact with highly infected soil.

Ringworm of the skin is contagious. It requires direct skin-to-skin contact. The type acquired from pets is not transmitted from human to human, only from animal to human.

Children undergoing treatment may continue to attend school or daycare. After 48 hours of treatment, ringworm is not contagious at all. Your child doesn't have to miss any school or day care.
