Ringworm Symptoms
Circular, itching red skin rash, raised, scaly patches that may blister and ooze. The patches often have sharply-defined edges. They are often redder around the outside with normal skin tone in the center. (This may create the appearance of a ring.) Your skin may also appear unusually dark or light. If your scalp or beard is infected, you will have bald patches. If nails are infected, they become discolored, thick, and even crumble or to become chalky and disintegrate.
Ringworm of the scalp usually begins as a small pimple that becomes larger, leaving scaly patches of temporary baldness. Infected hairs become brittle and break off easily. Yellowish crusty areas sometimes develop.
The groin is a common area of infection (groin ringworm). As the rash gradually expands, its center clears to produce a ring. More than one patch might appear, and the patches can overlap. The area is sometimes itchy.
Ringworm of the foot is also called athlete's foot. It appears as a scaling or cracking of the skin, especially between the toes.
